This photograph takes place outside of a colored only hotel. It looks like it is in the city, during the afternoon. There are four black, middle aged men in jackets and hats. The hotel seems old and and neglected. The part of town looks dirty and possibly a dangerous place to work or live in. The tone of the photograph is dark. I think the photographer wanted to focus on how colored people have to deal with harsh conditions and dangerous surroundings every day. If I were to ask the photographer two questions I would ask why he took the picture of that certain hotel, and if it meant anything to him personally. I would ask this because maybe it could give more depth to the picture or give true meaning to it.

This picture was taken in 1943 on the way from Kentucky to Nashville by Esther Bubley. It takes place outside in a rural area. It is morning and sunny out. There is a small dining room surrounded by trees and untrimmed bushes. The building is dirty and the paint is peeling. Something that catches my eye in the photo is that the building is so small. The tone of the picture is kind of dark. I think the photographer was trying to show how white people treated colored people, and how black people were forced to live in close quarters. Two questions I might ask this photographer are why would she stop and take a picture of this building, and what she thinks this really says about the discrimination against black people.

This picture shows several african americans outside an old building that seems to be in very bad condition. It looks bright out and it looks light it may be sometime in the morning and in an urban area. The picture shows 6 african americans probably ranging from middle age to old. What caught my eye was the building which looks like it is in pretty poor condition with pain peeling off and other things. Also I noticed that only african americans were in the photograph which probably means that this is the place they would have to go instead where white people went. I think the building in this photograph is a diner that only served african americans since there are advertisements for different kinds if drinks and only african americans are standing around the building. I think the tone of the picture is dark because it showed what kind of place African americans in the south had to go while white people got to go to better places. I would ask the person who took the picture what he was thinking when he took it and what he thought of the area of town he was in.

The picture was taken outside during what looks like morning or noon in the african american section of the city of Eutaw, Alabama. The photograph shows two african americans outside their home. One is a small child and the other is most likely the mother. What struck my eye was the houses that they were forced to live in. Since they were black they were forced to live in a different section of the town and it seems like the white people got the better section. It looks like this person is living somewhere probably on the outskirts of the town. I think the tone of this photograph is heavy and dark because it shows how the african americans were still not acceppted by many white people of the south. If I met the photographer who took this I would ask him what he thought about the homes that african americans had to live in and what he thought about their section of the town.

This picture shows a farmhouse belonging to an african american family outside of Greensboro, Alabama. It looks like it is sometime in midday and the setting is rural. There are two african americans present in the photograph and both look middle aged. What caught my eye was the condition of the farm and how everything seemed to be overgrown. I would say the mood of this photograph is dark since it shows that life on farms was just as tough or even tougher than life in the cities. I would ask the photgrapher what they thought about the land that the farm was on and what he thought about their lives there.

This photgraph shows a dried up field of corn near Eutaw Alabama. The setting of the photograph is outside on a farm sometime during the day. The thing that catches my eye first is that nearly all the corn visible is dead and dry. This causes the photograph to have a darker and heavier tone because of the thought of this being someone food or income. If I met the photographer I would ask her how she felt about the people that owned this land and if many other farms in the south were going through the same thing.

This photo shows a grocery store in Greens boro, Alabama. The setting of the photograph is somewhere in the city during the day. Ther is an old man standing in the doorway of the building next door. The first thing that caught my eye is that there doesn't seem to be much outside the store. Only a couple watermellons and other things. I think this gives the photograph a negative tone since there are so few things. If I met the photographer I would ask him if other grocery stores were facing similer problems and how this was affecting the people who usually go there.

This is a picture of a train. This train delivers food, and is a source of transportation. If you look closely, you will see there is a man sitting on top of the train. The man is homeless, and lives on top of the train. The Great Depression has affected the life of this man, because without his job he can't make money. Without money, he can't have a home. Without a home, he lives on the train.
